Getting around in Kurobe Gorge

The only way to get around is by taking the Kurobe Gorge railway, as this scenic train takes you through the area effordless with the ability to stop along the way. Be aware that the Kurobe Gorge Railway is only operational between late april through November.

Public transportation: 

To get from Toyama to Kurobe Gorge by public transportation, travelers have the following options:

  • Option 1: Bullet Train: Take the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Toyama Station to Kurobe-Unazukionsen Station. The total travel time is approximately 20 minutes.

  • Option 2: Regular Train: Take the JR Takayama Main Line from Toyama Station to Unazuki Onsen Station. The total travel time is approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes.

The nearest and most convenient airport is Toyama Airport. 

  • by car: approximately 1 hour

  • by public transport: approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes
