Getting around in Kusatsu Onsen

The easiest way around Kusatsu Onsen is on foot, since the major sights and attractions are within walking distance from each other. Though, some sights are located a bit further ahead, where a car or bus might be necessary.  If you decide to rent a car, it is advised to do so from the nearest airport in the vicinity. Getting to Kusatsu Onsen

Public transportation:

To get from Tokyo to Kusatsu Onsen by public transportation, travelers have the following options:

  • Option 1: Bullet Train:

    1. First, take the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Takasaki Station. The journey takes approximately 50 minutes

    2. Transfer to the JR Agatsuma Line at Takasaki Station and get off at Naganohara-Kusatsuguchi Station. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes.
      (The total travel time is approximately 2 hours.)

  • Option 2: Regular Train:

    1. First, take the JR Joetsu Line from Ueno Station to Takasaki Station. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

    2. Transfer to the JR Agatsuma Line at Takasaki Station and get off at Naganohara-Kusatsuguchi Station. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes.
      (The total travel time is approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes.)
