The easiest way around Mount Haguro is on foot, since the major sights and attractions are within walking distance from each other. Though, some sights are located a bit further ahead, where a car or bus might be necessary. 

Getting to the Mount Haguro Area

Public transportation:

To get from Yamagata to Mount Haguro by public transportation, travellers need to:

  1. First, take the JR Rikuu West Line from Yamagata Station to Tsuruoka Station. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes.

  2. Transfer to the Shonai Kotsu bus bound for Hagurosancho and get off at the Hagurosancho stop. The journey takes approximately 1 hour.

 The total travel time is approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes.
