The easiest way around Mount Tsukuba is on foot, since the hiking is the main attraction here in the area. Alternatively, you have the option to take a cable car or ropeway up the mountain.

Public transportation:

To get from Tokyo to Mount Tsukuba by public transportation, travellers have the following options:

  • Option 1: Bullet Train:

    1. First, take the Tsukuba Express from Akihabara Station to Tsukuba Station. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes.

    2. Transfer to the Mount Tsukuba Shuttle Bus at Tsukuba Station and travel to Tsukubasan Shrine Iriguchi. The journey takes approximately 40 minutes. 

(The total travel time is approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes.)
 

  • Option 2: Regular Train:

    1. First, take the JR Joban Line from Ueno Station to Arakawaoki Station. The journey takes approximately 1 hour.

    2. Transfer to the Kantetsu Bus at Arakawaoki Station and travel to Tsukubasan Shrine Iriguchi. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes.
