Kakegawa is a small city but with a surprising amount of things to see and do. Visit the 15th-century Kakegawa Castle for panoramic views of the city. Nearby, there is also the Kakegawa Stained Glass Museum, which showcases Victorian and French stained glass. During Spring, Tatsuo Shrine is popular among the locals for its spring plum blossoms.
The easiest way around Kakegawa is on foot or public transportation, since the major sights and attractions are within walking distance from each other. Though, some sights are located a bit further ahead, where a car or bus might be necessary to get there. If you decide to rent a car, it is advised to do so from the nearest airport in the vicinity. To get from Tokyo to Kakegawa by public transportation, travelers need to take a train. Detailed instructions are as follows:
Bullet Train: Take the JR Tokaido Shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Kakegawa Station. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes.
Regular Train: This option is not recommended due to the lengthy journey time and multiple transfers required.
